As the new year begins, we are looking back and reflecting on our favorite travels of 2019. Our team continued to explore the world as often as possible, and found a true passion for the continent of South America. Specifically, two unforgettable cities: Medellin and Cusco.
There is so much to unpack from this gem of a city. First off, the weather is on point. I think about it as if California and the forest came together as one. Temperatures stay at an enjoyable 70ish degrees in the midst of the beautiful scenic background of tree lush mountains. The food, culture and nightlife are one-of-a-kind. The city prides itself on a delicious and homemade Latin cuisine with a unique Colombian twist. There is an endless amount of local restaurants to experience the tastes of Colombia. Aside from the food, a major part of the culture is the dancing. Getting out of your comfort zone and becoming one with the Cumbia dancing is definitely a must-do! The city also offers all sorts of experiences from coffee tours to mountain biking and the best part is that the Colombian peso is at a great value vs the US dollar, so your cash can go really far here! This makes it easier to see as many things as possible.
There’s no place like Cusco. This city absolutely stole my heart and breath, too. (seriously, the altitude is INSANE!) Tucked away in the south of Peru, is this very small city with so much to offer. Streets are lined with artisan shops and vendors that bring the captivating South American culture to light. The Peruvian cuisine is world famous and you can find some of the best restaurants in the world within walking distance of your hotel. A few hours out of the city, is the home of Machu Picchu. The Cusco people are very proud of their Incan history and display it throughout their architecture and cuisine. There are vibrant colors that fill the atmosphere and when the sun goes down, local live music and dancing are the main attraction! Although there are many tourists, there are more locals than anything. Many of which have been in Cusco their whole lives and are happy to welcome you to explore the place they call home.
As we move into 2020 four words come to mind: new year, new travels. Just as we fell in love with two cities last year, we’re looking to add two more this year. These are the two countries we have our sights set on:
Visiting this country has been on my bucket list for a while now. We are planning to hopefully get this crossed off our list in the month of June. From Casablanca to a hammam bath, I’m looking forward to soaking up all culture!
From there, we plan to explore the country of Portugal. One of the oldest countries in Europe and World’s Leading Destination in 2019! Being huge fans of the Spanish lifestyle, I have a feeling this will become one of my favorite places.
Thanks for following along on this journey with us, we hope you will continue to let us influence your travels in the coming decade!
